How Keanan Koppenhaver automates newsletter broadcasts with a Claude Code skill

Keanan Koppenhaver schedules each Kit newsletter broadcast from Claude Code with a custom skill. The skill writes the email from his post, targets only the right subscribers, and has a dry-run mode, so he never emails the list by accident.

The problem

After publishing, he had to build and send a Kit broadcast each time. He describes it as a repetitive workflow with clear steps that he was doing inconsistently.

The blueprint

  1. He used Claude Code’s built-in skill-creator to define a “send a broadcast” skill.
  2. Claude read Kit’s API documentation, found the endpoints and wrote a Python script. He says he did not write any of it.
  3. The script takes a subject line, HTML content and a send time, and creates a scheduled broadcast in Kit.
  4. A dry-run mode lets him test without emailing the list.
  5. Targeting is built in: only subscribers tagged CC4M, excluding anyone still in the welcome sequence.
  6. He published the skill, script and email template so others can adapt them. It needs a Kit API key.
