The problem
He finished the manuscript “early this year” with 44,000 words and “a lot of work ahead to get this out.” For his first book in 2020 he “hired at least three people to help me out with different self-publishing tasks which were very time-consuming.” This time he wanted AI to do “a lot of the heavy lifting which comes after the manuscript is ready.” In his LinkedIn post he calls it “Not the writing part. The other 90%.”
The blueprint (as he describes it)
He writes: “I used Claude Code for all of this. I had the ideas, wrote the prompts and it implemented it the best way it could.”
-
Put the book in plain text first. He converted the manuscript into Markdown files, one per chapter, managed in Obsidian. Every chapter, endnote and appendix has its own file. Claude Code could then work on any part of the book without copy and paste. He says this “made everything else on this list possible.”
-
Build the website as the sales and capture point. Sleepagain.co is a static HTML/CSS site that Claude Code built. It has a homepage, an about page, a chapter list, an FAQ and a podcast guest landing page. Claude Code added structured data, social card previews, a sitemap and crawler permissions so search engines and AI can find the site. Later it added three things:
- a free chapter lead magnet funnel
- a Lemon Squeezy checkout for launch day
- a launch-day branch to merge on April 9
The book sells on his website and on Amazon as an audiobook, paperback, hardcover and ebook. The audiobook is included in the website bundle.
-
Run the advance reader (ARC) campaign through Kit’s API. He drafted the emails himself: the initial ask, the weekly check-ins and the final “post your review on April 9” reminder. Claude Code tagged subscribers, scheduled the broadcasts and sent reminders at each milestone. When a scheduled broadcast needed changes, it called the API to swap the content. He sums it up as “No logging into dashboards, no clicking through forms.”
-
Get one daily KPI email. He wanted a single email covering site traffic, subscriber counts and sales on every platform. Claude Code wrote a fetcher that pulls from five APIs every morning:
- Kit for subscribers
- Umami for analytics
- Lemon Squeezy for direct sales
- Apple Books
- Lulu
KDP has no API, so Claude Code built Chrome browser scrapers that log in and extract the numbers. Everything goes to Supabase. A GitHub Action assembles the email at 10 AM Helsinki time. “I open my inbox and the full picture is there.”
-
Produce social carousels at volume. He picked the topics, humor styles and visual direction for each TikTok and Instagram carousel. Claude Code built the slides as HTML, screenshotted them in the right aspect ratios for each platform and scheduled the posts via API. Over a month they produced more than 30 carousels with over 240 slides in total.
-
Launch. He launched on April 9 with a LinkedIn Live and three emails.
Production steps, briefly:
- Ebook. No Vellum or Atticus. Claude Code built a preprocessor that turns chapter files into Kindle-compatible HTML. It took 12 rounds of iteration. The result is a 163KB EPUB with embedded fonts and bidirectional endnote links.
- Print interior. It went through four proof cycles. Chrome’s headless PDF generator was silently scaling body text to 9.68pt instead of 11pt. Claude Code found the bug. It also recalculated spine width and regenerated covers whenever the page count changed. The final interior is 277 pages.
- Audiobook. It uses ElevenLabs text-to-speech. Each chunk got dual takes. Spectral analysis picked the cleaner take, and Whisper transcription checked it against the source text. The result is 30 tracks, just under 5 hours.
- Cover. He started from a Nano Banana Pro image. Claude Code built a 54-font specimen page, and he picked Cormorant. It then built HTML-to-PDF templates for the KDP paperback and Lulu hardcover.
- Consistency audit. Claude Code extracted 746 factual claims from 33 files and flagged 38 potential issues. Of those, 18 were real and three were critical. All were fixed before text lock.
- Endnotes. The book has 87 endnotes. Claude Code found missing citations and added bidirectional links in the EPUB.
- Backups. Over 200 files sit on Google Drive, kept current by a manifest-based sync script. He also uses Obsidian and GitHub as backups.
- Finnish translation. Each chapter runs through DeepL, then Claude reviews the output against his locked glossary. He reviews both files side by side in Obsidian. Twenty-two chapters are done. Flags per chapter fell from over ten early on to an average of two or three. The Finnish edition is due in June.
Stated results
- Launched April 9 with a LinkedIn Live and three emails.
- “Two bundle sales came in within the first hour.”
- “Six five-star reviews on Goodreads by end of day.”
- The people who reached out “were founders I’d talked to about sleep months ago.” His takeaway: “Building in public works. Not because of reach. Because of memory.”
- He produced more than 30 carousels and over 240 slides in a month. He says, “I couldn’t have done that volume manually in the time I had.” He does not state any reach or sales from them.
- No sales totals, subscriber counts or ARC sign-up numbers are stated.
Caveats
- He sells the book. Both the newsletter issue and the LinkedIn posts promote it.
- The “under 400 euros” production cost is his own figure and is not itemized.
- Results are launch-day only. His later post says the book “has been live for 6 days” but gives no totals.
- His first book in 2020 needed at least three hired helpers. For this one he names no hires.
- He directed the work (“I had the ideas, wrote the prompts”) and wrote the ARC emails and chose the carousel topics. He also says, “AI didn’t replace my judgment, but it let me act on it at a pace I couldn’t have matched alone.”
- The timeline varies between sources. The newsletter says he started writing in 2024. LinkedIn says “The book took two years” and also refers to “3 years of personal sleep research.”
- The Finnish edition was still in progress at the time of writing.
- The newsletter issue is dated April 2026.
